Yalumba 'The Menzies' Museum Release Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
Couldn't load pickup availability
- TASTING NOTE: A classy Coonawarra cabernet sauvignon museum offering, made by Peter Gambetta, from the strong 2015 vintage. There's a solid pedigree of longevity with The Menzies and this release is beginning to show that potential. Brightly coloured with pure blackberry, blood plum and blackcurrant fruits, there's still some primary exuberance to the fruit profile; it seems youthful. There's hints of mixed spice, a light shading of tobacco and dark chocolatey things and a passing glance of mint. The tannins are compact and powdery and there is a long, elegant finish that shows excellent sustain and harmony. 96 Points - Dave Brookes, Halliday

ABOUT THE WINE: Situated in the heart of Coonawarra’s terra rossa strip, The Menzies Estate vineyard lies on a flat plain, approximately 70km from the coast. Given the terrain and influence of the cooling Bonney upwelling, Coonawarra is an ideal location to grow premium Cabernet Sauvignon. Our soil is red sandy
loam over limestone, which is classic Cabernet Sauvignon country. The majority of grapes for The Menzies 2015 are from vines planted in 1975. Bunches are usually small with small berries, giving concentration via an ideal skin to juice ratio favouring the making of full-bodied reds. -
ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Owned and run by the Hill-Smith family, Yalumba has a long commitment to quality and great vision in its selection of vineyard sites, new varieties and brands. It has always been a serious player at the top end of full-bodied Australian reds and was a pioneer in the use of screwcaps. Encompassing everything our family stands for and the perfect representation of our history and ethos. In 1992 the Hill-Smith family counted themselves amongst those fortunate enough to own a vineyard upon the famous Coonawarra terra rossa soil over limestone. Experimentation, innovation, minimalist intervention and small batch winemaking has resulted in The Menzies’ reputation as a wine of longevity, elegance and structure.
