- TASTING NOTE: “Abundant floral aromatics and depth with black and blue fruits, scorched earth, mulberry bush, violets, graphite and licorice. The midweight palate has a seamlessly integrated mouthfeel and tannins. Fermented with a touch of viognier. Expressive and spicy with plenty of old-world charm.” 95 Points - Ryan Montgomery, James Suckling
- ABOUT THE WINE: A stunning reflection of Margaret River Syrah. Its style is aromatic, rather layered and refined, finesse and elegance taking precedence over power and weight. The vines are planted in well drained loam over gravel, and maintain a finely tuned balance between rich fruit flavours and spice and peppery notes through meticulous attention to detail with regards to pruning and canopy management. Handpicked when both fruit and tannins have reached optimum ripeness, we have taken a very hands-off approach in the winemaking process. As always, the aim is to let the fruit speak for itself. A small amount of our Syrah was co-fermented with a tiny proportion of Viognier, handpicked from the Eastern most point of our Home block. The remaining Syrah was fermented with a parcel of whole bunches before the wine was carefully pressed off using our hand-operated basket press, with maturation occurring in French oak over a period of 12 months. The result is beautiful expression of a cooler climate Syrah, with lifted aromatics and elegant fruit, plum, bright cherry fruits, a myriad of spices, and subtle hints of white pepper. An incredibly versatile wine. Windows Estate

ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Viticulturist Chris Davies single-handedly planted most of what is now Windows Estate in 1996, when he was 19. The farm lies on the border of the Margaret River subregions of Yallingup and Wilyabrup with seven hectares of vines planted across three blocks at about 100 metres on soils of primarily ancient laterite, clay and granite. Chris has worked the vineyard on his own from day one, hand-pruning every vine himself and only enlisting help when it's time to pick. The vines are dry-grown, and the estate is certified organic. Minimalist winemaking seeks to honour the site and painstaking, personal nature of the farming. Chris and his wife, Jo, produce varietal Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Syrah, as well as Bordeaux blends.
