Vietti Barolo 2021

- TASTING NOTE: "The 2021 Barolo Castiglione is a superb entry-level Barolo from Vietti. Rich, deep and layered in the glass, the 2021 offers tons of near- and medium-term appeal. The blend of sites is compelling. Dark red-toned fruit, spice, menthol, and licorice are all beautifully amplified. In 2021, the Castiglione approaches the level of the crus, and that is saying something. (Drink between 2029-2041)." 94 Points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous
- ABOUT THE WINE: The grapes come from small yet significant vineyards in the various municipalities of the Barolo region. The average age of the Guyot-cultivated vines is between 10 and 45 years old, with a density of about 4,500 plants per hectare. The soil is rich in limestone and clay. Each individual cru is vinified and aged separately and in different ways to bring out the characteristics of each “terroir”. The grapes are harvested by hand. After gentle pressing, the juice ferments for around 3 - 4 weeks in a steel tank, in contact with the skins. This period includes pre and post-fermentation maceration, involving around 30 months in large barrels and, for a small portion, barriques. Vietti

ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Located in the heart of the Langhe hills, at the top of the village of Castiglione Falletto, the Vietti wine cellar was founded in the late 1800s by Carlo Vietti. Although they have been making wine for four generations, the turning point came in the 1960's when Luciana Vietti married winemaker and art connoisseur Alfredo Currado, whose intuitions – from the production of one of the first Barolo crus (Rocche di Castiglione – 1961), through the single-varietal vinification of Arneis (1967) made him one of the modern pioneers of the region. His legacy was taken up by hi son Luca Currado and his wife Elena. Today Vietti is the only estate in Piedmont to own vineyards in all eleven of the Barolo-producing villages with many of the parcels located in the region’s most historic and pedigreed sites. Vietti was named winery of the year 2022 by Antonio Galloni's Vinous Media. The current winemaker for Vietti Wines is Eugenio Palumbo, who joined the winery after the departure of Luca Currado-Vietti in early 2023. Palumbo leads the winemaking team at Vietti, continuing the winery's legacy of quality and innovation under the ownership of Krause Holdings.
