- ABOUT THE WINE: "When I began in 1977 my father had already set aside ten barrels of Tawny from the late 1950’s through to the 1970’s. Five decades on, this Rare Tawny is the result. Building on a Shiraz base, I used Grenache and a touch of Verdelho (as a Madeira style), then matured in old brandy casks, this Rare Tawny displays richness and concentration, but also the complexity and texture so crucial to this unique style. Rich, concentrated, and nutty, finishing medium-dry rather than sweet like a liqueur. It is produced entirely from Swan Valley fruit and each bottling represents a blend number and is signed to confirm the date of bottling. This is our most complex wine and our first Tawny." ABOUT THE PRODUCER: James and Hilda Talijancich purchased the winery and vineyard from James' father Peter and moved into the winery homestead with their four children in 1998. Since that period they have followed the bio-dynamic approach to viticulture, which is the strictest form of organic growing developed by Rudolph Steiner. Talijancich Wines remains one of the few producers in the region that focuses on wines made solely from Swan Valley fruit, with the majority of their wines being estate grown.
