  • ABOUT THE WINE: At an elevation of 220-280m the east facing Kloppberg vineyard is situated in stony, heavy clay/marl soils. This is Winters coolest site, where grapes retain their vitality for an exceptionally long time and ripen slowly. A complex Riesling with mineral elegance.
  • ABOUT THE PRODUCER: The winery is located in the municipality of Dittelsheim-Hessloch in the German wine-growing region of Rheinhessen. Originally from Austria, the traditional family was first mentioned in a document in 1469. They have been involved in viticulture for many generations, with Werner Winter planting Sylvaner and Riesling vines as early as 1600. For a long time, however, the estate was a mixed agricultural business until the early 1990s, when it concentrated completely on viticulture. Today, the farm is run by Stefan Winter, who gained practical experience at the Keller Klaus (Rheinhessen) and Bassermann-Jordan (Pfalz) wineries. The vineyards cover 20 hectares of vineyards and are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Sylvaner, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay, as well as the red wine variety Pinot Noir. The quality criteria in the vineyards are yield reduction, fully ripe grapes and selective hand harvesting as late as possible. The musts ferment spontaneously for a period of 10 to 30 days, in some cases even for several months, depending on the wine type and flavour. Depending on the wine type, the wines are aged partly in stainless steel tanks and partly in wooden barrels.
