  • TASTING NOTE: "High-toned, perfumed and pretty as a picture with a precise porcelain acidity that sends a shiver down your spine. The good kind of shiver. Green apple, grapefruit, yuzu, cold chamomile tea, citrus blossom, mineral salts, pressed wildflowers and crushed stone. Velocity and focus on show on the palate; fruit appley and limey, travelling sleek and clean with a long finish.94 Points - Dave Brookes, Halliday
  • ABOUT THE WINE: The 2024 Riesling includes fruit from the younger sections of the Palisander Vineyard in the Tea Tree subregion of the Coal River Valley, twenty minutes north-east of Hobart. Planted in 2017 and 2021, the clones are GM239 and GM198. The remaining fruit (36% of the final blend) is from a neighbouring vineyard, planted in 2004 to a density of 5000 vines to the hectare. Both vineyards are primarily brown dermosol on Jurassic dolerite, and the vines are cane pruned and trained to a VSP canopy, with green harvesting and shoot thinning in spring and summer where necessary. • ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Samantha (Sam) Connew has racked up a series of exceptional achievements, commencing with bachelor of law and bachelor of arts degrees, majoring in political science and English literature, from the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, NZ, then deciding her future direction by obtaining a postgraduate diploma of oenology and viticulture from Lincoln University, Canterbury, NZ. Sam moved to Australia, undertaking the Advanced Wine Assessment course at the Australian Wine Research Institute in 2000, being chosen as a scholar at the '02 Len Evans Tutorial, winning the George Mackey Award for the best wine exported from Australia in '04 and was awarded International Red Wine Maker of the Year at the International Wine Challenge, London in '07. After a highly successful and lengthy position as chief winemaker at Wirra Wirra , Sam moved to Tasmania (via the Hunter Valley) to make the first wines for her own business, something she said she would never do. The emotive name (and label) is in part a tribute to Abel Tasman, the first European to sight Tasmania before proceeding to the South Island of NZ, navigating by the stars.
