- ABOUT THE WINE: V24 in Eden Valley saw notably dry conditions, resulting in lower-than-average yields and crafting white wines with refreshing acidity and great depth of flavour. The fruit for this wine comes from Christa and Leon Deans’ Flaxman Valley vineyard on their home property. This is a Pewsey Vale Riesling clone planted in the early 2000s on well-drained, grey sandy loam dotted with gravel. The high-altitude nature of this site, along with its soil profile, creates a style of Riesling with a strong sense of place. The grapes were meticulously hand-picked and whole bunch pressed into a tank where natural fermentation was encouraged to slowly take place. Once halfway through, a portion was gently put into barrel while the other remained fermenting away in tank. The two components weave together delicate aromatics with ample texture, producing a more complex, well-rounded wine and highlighting the natural attributes of Flaxman Valley Riesling.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Meet Samantha Chandra, the winemaker behind Setiono, a new project emerging from the Barossa Valley. With a passion for Rhone-style Syrah, Sam’s journey began after her inaugural vintage at Wynns in Coonawarra, where she honed her craft under the mentorship of Sue Hodder. She furthered her winemaking experience at various other Australian wineries, and even overseas in the Napa Valley. These diverse experiences enriched her understanding of terroir, technique, and the artistry of winemaking. In 2021, Sam’s dream materialised as Setiono took shape. A label born from love, dedication, and a commitment to excellence, it promises to redefine Barossa’s vinous landscape. Famelia
