  • TASTING NOTE: "The hint of funk (reduction) needs a moment to blow off and twist in the flinty direction. Then the white-peach, grapefruit and cardamon aromas blossom. Very slatey and sleek palate that's extremely focused and pristine. Then the cool and elegant finish slowly lets you back down to earth. From organically grown grapes with Fair'n Green certification. Drink or hold." 94 Points - JamesSuckling.com
  • ABOUT THE WINE: Schiefergestein means shale rock, and is in reference to the kind of soil found where these 30-40 year old vines grow in the famed Felseneck vineyard.
  • ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Tim Fröhlich took over the family estate from his parents in 1995 and implemented strict regimes to improve quality levels, both in the vineyard and winery, that has seen the estate rise meteorically in the years since. Today it is considered one of the best wineries in Germany.

The family's wine history goes back more than 200 years to 1800, when the Fröhlichs first produced wine. Tim's parents Karin and Hans Fröhlich took over the winery in the early 1970s. Riesling is the dominant variety of the estate with about 85% of area under vine and Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir together accounting for the rest. The wineries best vineyards are found in Felseneck in Bockenheim, plus Stromberg, Felsenberg and Kupfergrube in Schlossböckelheim as well as Halenberg and Frühlingsplätzchen in Monzingen.
