- TASTING NOTE: "The 2018 Barbaresco Pajè is a brooding, inward wine. Mineral and savory notes dominate, while fruit is in the background. The Pajè has come together beautifully since I first tasted it a few months ago. The aromatics in particular are so expressive. Like all the 2018s here, the Pajè is a Barbaresco of understated complexity. It will be interesting to see if the nervy tannins soften a touch. (Drink between 2026-2048)" 94 Points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous
- ABOUT THE WINE: Owned by the Roagna family since 1953, Pajé is a historic vineyard nestled in the heart of Barbaresco. Its gentle, amphitheatre-like slope enjoys optimal sun exposure and benefits from the moderating influence of the Tanaro River valley. The calcareous marl soil, especially rich in active limestone, contributes to the site’s distinct minerality and finesse. With vines averaging over 50 years old—planted exclusively to Nebbiolo in the upper section—Pajé yields wines of depth, energy, and aromatic purity.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER: For more than 150 years, the Roagna Winery has been a shining example of quality, traditional-style winemaking in the Barbaresco commune in the beautiful wine region of Piedmont. The tiny winery is located in the hamlet of Barbaresco itself, near Gaja, Bruno Rocca, and the Michelin-starred Antinè restaurant. Long famed for its potent, expressive Barbarescos and Barolos, which in characteristic Barbaresco style can often age for decades, Roagna is one of the old guards of producers, making modern and balanced versions of full, tannic wines that marked this region for so much of the 20th century.
