  • TASTING NOTE: A cracking blend of Rabigato and Gouveio– the wine has a lovely line of acidity running through it from the Rabigato plus extra depth and complexity from the Gouveio. Fresh and focused with citrus and fresh herbs on the nose, the palate has a mineral quality and delicious notes of lime zest, apricots and a hint of thyme.
  • ABOUT THE WINE: 59% Rabigato, 41% Gouveio. Fruit is sourced from the highest location in the vineyard between 380 and 520m. Wild ferments in stainless steel tanks. Raised Sur lie in stainless steel tanks for 6 months.
  • ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Quinta da Pedra Alta is located in the heart of the Douro Valley in the Cima Corgo sub-region. Back in 1761, the Marques de Pombal assigned stone markers (feitorias) to delineate the Douro wine region, marking the best part of it. Quinta da Pedra Alta is the only vineyard in the Douro to have three of these granite markers, known as Marcos Pombalinos, on its property. A visit to Pedra Alta reveals the 35ha of terraced vineyards, the schist soils, the small parcels of different soils, the myriad of indigenous grape varieties (some 30+ years old) and the steep slopes that start with a breath-taking view at 550m and rush down to the river at 230m . This combination of variation of altitude and exposure to the sun
helps to give perfect balance and complexity in the wines. They grow only indigenous and traditional Douro grapes that are blended to produce a range of still wines and ports. As it is the tradition in the Douro, all of the wines are blends, producing a range of white, red and port wines considered the most faithful interpretation of the land. Quinta da Pedra Alta has six granite lagares for crushing the grapes. The lagares are a tradition that has lasted for centuries. The fermentation in lagares allows the winemaking team to control how much body, tannin and flavours are extracted and will remain in the final handcrafted product. Winemakers Matt and João share the same vision when making the wines—to capture the elegance, and find the essence of what the land has to offer. Quinta da Pedra Alta
