- TASTING NOTE: "Launched in 2001, the Rich cuvée sits between sec and demi-sec in its sweetness, with 34 g/L of sugar bestowing rich notes of tarte tatin and sour honey, but far from overwhelming in its indulgence. A hard category to get right this, especially as most Champagnes rely more and more on natural ripeness, and have, as a result, lowered their dosage. Pol, needless to say, is spot on; the wine is very complete in its own right, but, most importantly, gastronomically intelligent and versatile. A generous 25% of reserve wine underlines the seriousness of intent, confirming this aspiration through the sheer depth and complexity of flavour on display" 90 Points - Simon Field MW, Decanter
- ABOUT THE WINE: Half-way between sec and demi-sec (dry and semi-dry), the cuvée Rich is distinguished by its perfect harmony due to a fine balance between sugar and natural acidity. The Cuvée is the result of the harmonious blend, in equal proportions, of the three Champagne grape varieties: pinot noir, pinot meunier and Chardonnay from 30 different crus. 25% reserve wines are used to produce this cuvée. The Cuvée Rich is kept in the cellar for a minimum of 4 years. Following disgorging, it is topped up by a dosage of 34g/l to enhance its sweet flavour.
- ABOUT THE PRODUCER: The titular Pol Roger made his first wine sale in 1849. Five generations later the house is now considered one of Champagne's finest and it is still run and owned by the same family. Based in Epernay their signature wine is the vintage cuvée, Sir Winston Churchill.
