- TASTING NOTE: "The 2021 Il Carbonaione is a regal, elegant wine. Silky, beautifully perfumed and persistent, the 2021 is everything I want from Il Carbonaione. All the purity of Sangiovese caresses the senses in a wine that is both textually intense and also light on its feet. Dark red-toned fruit, rose petals, cinnamon, new leather and cedar are some of the many nuances that open in the glass. Silky, polished tannins wrap it all together in style. I would give this a few years in bottle, or a healthy decant if that is not possible. (Drink between 2026-2041)." 95+ Points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous
- ABOUT THE WINE: The Carbonaione vineyard sits at 450m with a WSW exposure. The terraced hillside sits on sandy soils, rich in loam with with lots of rocks. Vines are of average age 80 years old. Primary fermentation in stainless steel, before 14 months ageing in 350L tonneaux barrels.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER: The current Podere Poggio Scalette originated from the restoration of an abandoned property on the Ruffoli hill: Vittorio Fiore and his wife Adriana acquired the land in the early 1990s, establishing the estate as an independent concern in 1991 and expanding it with subsequent acquisitions in 1996. Over time the Fiore family has enhanced historic vineyards — in particular the cru known as "Il Carbonaione" — restoring the terraced plots to production and developing a range of IGT and Chianti Classico DOCG wines. The vineyards are located in the Alta Valle della Greve area, between 350 and 550 m above sea level, on terraced slopes characterized by sandy soils with a stony content; the hill of Ruffoli is considered one of the best areas of the Val di Greve for growing vines and olives. Production focused on expressing the territory: respect for the terraced soils and historic vineyards, with careful work in the vineyard and cellar to produce wines that reflect the altitude and exposure of Ruffoli’s vineyards. The estate states an approach rooted in a passion for the land, the vine and people, with attention to the local terroir.
