- TASTING NOTE: "Cool, airy and restrained aromas are composed by notes of mineral reduction, acacia blossom, lemon-lime, exotic tea – especially jasmine – and a hint of tangerine peel. The dense, indeed almost thick and unctuous, medium-bodied-plus flavours possess unusually good power in the context of what is typical for Perrières, all wrapped in a hugely long bitter-citrus-inflected, stony and tightly wound finale. - ABOUT THE WINE: Grapes are crushed before being given a relatively firm pressing; Thibault wants the contribution of the pips and skins. Minimal settling, no addition of sulphur until after malo-lactic fermentation. 15 months on oak, 40% new.
- ABOUT THE PROUCER: Son of the late Marc Morey, Michel Morey, and his wife, Fabienne (from the Pillot clan), began the Morey-Coffinet Domaine in the late 1970s with a dowry of vineyards bestowed on them by two families with extensive history in the region. With a stable foundation of 1er Crus from the southeast-facing hillside, the whites speak to the very essence of Chassagne, with fragrant aromas framed by powerful minerality. The reds capture the roasted, muscular aromas of Chassagne terroir and display silky texture and balance. Michel’s son, Thibault, joined the business in the late 1990s, and the Domaine’s wines have since reached new heights. The estate has been certified organic since 2018 and also utilises many biodynamic principals in the vineyard. Thibault also has a policy of swapping some of his grapes with other vignerons of his generation, adding a few additional appellations to his stable. These include Corton-Charlemagne, Meursault Perrieres and Saint Aubin Les Frionnes. These wines are labelled as Maison Morey Coffinet rather than as Domaine.
