- TASTING NOTE: "There’s always a panoply of pick times and ferment constructions employed, with the matrix reminiscent of a forensic investigation, carefully linked by string and drawing pins. The impact, however, is entirely effortless, with a seamless feel and gossamer layering. This is agreeably lightweighted, scented with coal-smoky bunch notes, trilling with red fruits and popping with spices, running though coriander seed, green cardamom, white pepper and fennel seed. Goji berry, redcurrant, rose petal, Earl Grey tea, tart blackberry, tamarind … sweet and sour in the right way. A thoroughly modern Vale shiraz with Rhône echoes. Lovely." 95 Points - Marcus Ellis, Halliday Wine Companion
- ABOUT THE WINE: We combined two separate picks from our own Onkaparinga Rocks vineyard, and three separate picks from a trio of sandy dry grown Blewitt Springs sites which were spread over more than a month. Whole-bunch inclusion ranged from 0% up to 60%, with approximately 18% whole bunches retained in the total blend, the rest gently de-stemmed to preserve whole berries for purity. Of the 18 separate ferments all were fermented wild, and either hand plunged or pumped over twice daily. Maceration on skins ranged from 8 days up to more than 30 days to build both complexity and retain freshness. After pressing, the wine was matured for 7 months in a combination of French oak hogsheads, puncheons, demi muids, and foudres. Ministry of Clouds

ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Ministry of Clouds was founded in 2012 by Bernice Ong and Julian Forwood with the sole goal of crafting wines with gastronomy in mind. It was borne of our joint desire to live full lives in the world of wine – to be our own quiet voice in the clamour of our industry, no longer employed by others, only working with varieties and vineyards we love, relishing the freedom to experiment, to take risks, to feed the flames that kindle our souls. We fell in love with wine first. Then we set about the farming and the making. Our journeys began with many years of working for the storied Australian importers of the rare and fine wines of the old world, being immersed in the best of Burgundy, Piedmonte, the Rhone and beyond. From there, our careers migrated to working for renowned family-owned wineries in McLaren Vale providing 16 years between us to meet growers, walk vineyards, observe the changing seasons and its nuances, but most importantly the opportunity to taste widely from our region, McLaren Vale. We gained a growing understanding of the dedication and sheer bloody-mindedness required to identify and nurture great vineyards, to carefully shepherd the resulting fruit through fermentation and maturation, and then set out to find willing partners around the world to tell these stories.
