- TASTING NOTE: "The NV Collection 245 is another stellar Champagne from Roederer. Apricot, white flowers, spice, white pepper and tangerine oil all open in the glass. This is a more open-knit style from Roederer. The blend is 41% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 24% Meunier based in 2020, but with 35% reserve wines from a perpetual reserve of previous editions and 10% reserve wines in oak, meaning the base vintage is not particularly evident. Dosage is 7 grams per liter, but it feels a bit higher than that. (Drink between 2024-2034)." 92 Points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous
- ABOUT THE WINE: Made up of 55% of the 2020 harvest, Collection 245 is an ode to taste and drinking pleasure. Each year, the Cellar Master composes a new symphony, inspired by the tonalities of the year and then adds the wines from the Perpetual Reserve and the oak-aged reserve wines. The Perpetual Reserve makes up 35% of the Collection 245 blend providing balance and freshness. In parallel with the Perpetual Reserve, a significant proportion of wines from previous years and young plots on the Cristal estate, aged in French oak foudres, are added to the blend. These Reserve wines are Louis Roederer's signature and make up 10% of the Collection 245 blend. Louis Roederer
- ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Reims based Louis Roederer is one of the few family owned and independent houses amongst the larger producers in Champagne. In 1845, Louis Roederer acquired 15 hectares in the Grand Cru vineyards of Verzenay. Today the house has 242 hectares located exclusively in the Grands and Premiers Crus of the Montagne de Reims, the Vallée de la Marne, and the Côte des Blancs. Of those 242 hectares, 122 are organically certified and another 10 are certified biodynamic. However, biodynamic principals are used throughout all of their holdings and their flagship wine Cristal is produced from only the best biodynamic fruit. Only the Brut Premier and Collection wines use bought in fruit in their production with all of the other cuvees produced with fruit from their own vineyards. Of all the big names in Champagne, Roederer is the closest in philosophy to the small récoltant manipulant producers that produce wine exclusively from their own fruit.
