- TASTING NOTE: "The most intense, deep color you’ll find. Aromatically rich with blackberries, anise, and hints of pepper and savory, meaty notes. The palate is structured with dusty, mouth-filling tannins and precise acidity, yet it carries surprising elegance." Mewstone
- ABOUT THE WINE: Sourced from a single vineyard in the North West (White Rock), this wine was harvested on March 26th at 12.2 Baume. Whole berries were fermented with natural yeast for 20 days before being pressed to seasoned oak for six months of maturation. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Brothers Matthew and Jonathan Hughes established Mewstone vineyard on the banks of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel in 2011. They produce expressive single site wines with a minimum of intervention in the winery. The vineyard is a former cherry orchard and with the new plantings the estate counts 5.2 hectares. The original planting consists mostly of pinot noir with small plantings of chardonnay, and Riesling. Jonny is the winemaker in this family venture. He studied winemaking in New Zealand before working in Langhorne Creek (South Australia), Central Otago (NZ), Mornington Peninsula (Victoria), Barolo (Italy), the Hunter Valley (New South Wales) and Okanagan Valley (Canada). Heading home to Tasmania, Jonny worked in various roles within the local wine industry, before settling in as the Assistant Winemaker at Moorilla in Hobart for seven years. Mewstone also makes wines under the Hughes & Hughes label.
