- TASTING NOTE: "100% shiraz from 32-year-old vines of one single block at the stellar Hill of Grace vineyard in Eden Valley, matured for 18 months in seasoned French oak. This release sees the 20-year anniversary of this wine and what a cracking vintage to celebrate the milestone. Super bright magenta/crimson in the glass with a distinct sense of clarity and lift to the aromatic profile. Pure satsuma plum, red and dark cherry and some lovely raspberry pip lift with hints of fine spice, mace, star anise, panforte, dark chocolate, violets and earth. A wonderful and enveloping expression of pure dark and black fruits on the palate; graceful, sleek and perfectly poised, set to a backdrop of cascading powdery tannins and a bright mineral cadence. An excellent release." 97 Points - Dave Brookes, Halliday
- ABOUT THE WINE: This wine is produced from a small selection of low-yielding, dry-grown shiraz vines from the Hill of Grace Vineyard, planted as a nursery block in 1989. The planting is known as the ‘Post Office Block’ after the historic Parrot Hill Post Office ruins overlooking the vineyard. These vines were a mere 12 years old when the wine was first produced in 2001 and at present are too young to be considered for inclusion in the Hill of Grace vintages. As per the Barossa Old Vine Charter, an ‘old vine’ is equal to or greater than 35 years of age. The quality of the grapes from this selection, however, has produced a wine that has warranted a separate bottling and limited release. Matured in 100% seasoned French oak hogsheads for 18 months prior to blending and bottling.
- ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Henschke is one of Australia's great wine producers, situated in Keyneton in the Eden Valley of South Australia. The Henschke's trace their roots in Australia to the mid 19th century with the first recorded sale of Henschke wine in 1868. It's flagship wine, the 'Hill Of Grace' Shiraz is sourced from a single vineyard from vines over 160 years old. The current generations of the Henschke family (5th and 6th) that tend the 109 hectares under vine in the Eden Valley, Barossa Valley and Adelaide Hills, use organic and biodynamic principals in their vineyards and are world leaders in sustainable wine production.
