  • TASTING NOTE: "Such a pretty red-fruited wine with notes of redcurrant, raspberry, red cherry and a liminal whiff of watermelon and cranberry. There's an array of exotic spice and hints of purple flowers, rhubarb, amaro herbs, mushroom broth, forest floor, Peking duck, pomegranate and earth. Spacious, filigreed and mineral-laden, I really liked this wine's energy, super-fine tannins, meaty nuance and tail of raspberry and spice as it slowly retreated. Lovely and perfect for those seeking a lighter, airier style of pinot." 95 Points - Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion
  • ABOUT THE WINE: Winemaker Claudio Radenti says that while the Freycinet Vineyard site produces a more muscular, robust style of pinot noir that lends itself well to cellaring, the cooler 2022 vintage conditions “have created our most elegant pinot noir in some years”. The 2022 vintage was one of the coolest, wettest seasons experienced on the East Coast with long, slow ripening and low yields. Lower sunshine and warmth have ensured superb concentration of flavours, excellent natural acid retention and an extra degree of elegance and finesse in the wines. Fully ripened fruit is handpicked for this wine from our original 1979 plantings of  predominately own rooted G5V15 clone. 100% whole berry fermentation provides impressive fruit weight and elegant, supple tannins. Matured in French oak barriques (25% new) for 10 months on fine lees.  Freycinet
  • ABOUT THE PRODUCER: In 1978, Geoff and Susan Bull took advantage of the remarkable prospects offered by the east coast of Tasmania, clearing some land, planting their first vines in 1979 and created the first commercial winery in the region. Although inexperienced in viticulture, Geoff and Susan were inspired by Tasmania's emerging wine scene and their love for the land. With determination and guidance from industry pioneers, Andrew Pirie (Pipers Brook), Graham Wiltshire (Heemskerk) and Claudio Alcorso (Moorilla Estate), they established Freycinet Vineyard as the first commercial vineyard on the east coast. With true pioneering spirit and despite many challenges, they planted vine rootlings in 1979 and, with the help of wine consultant Gary Baldwin, produced their initial wines in 1983. Fast forward to today, Freycinet Vineyard remains safely in family hands with daughter Lindy and her partner Claudio Radenti guiding the tradition of gently nurturing the wines from vineyard to bottle. Freycinet Vineyard remains a family owned business, with a small and dedicated team across our vineyard, cellar door and winemaking functions who collectively ensure we continue to prosper and produce exceptional wines.
