- ABOUT THE WINE: Established in 1965, Block 1 is the original Forest Hill vineyard and the site where the Great Southern wine region began. Sixty years on, it continues to produce powerful Riesling of remarkable purity and longevity. The low yielding, 1-hectare Block 1 site was hand picked in the cool hours of the morning. The fruit was chilled further overnight and then hand sorted before whole-bunch pressed. The best fraction of the free-run juice was then transferred to a small stainless-steel vessel where it was settled and racked taking some solids for fermentation. Fermentation is followed by extended lees contact. 102 dozen produced. Forest Hill
- ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Forest Hill Vineyard has a unique place in the history of Western Australia’s wine industry, being the first cool climate vineyard planted in the state in 1965 as an experiment by the Western Australian Department of Agriculture. The original vineyard was planted with Riesling and Cabernet cuttings sourced from the Houghton's property in the Swan Valley. The property was purchased by the Lyons family in 1996 who embarked on a program to rejuvenate the old vineyards and plant appropriate new ones.
