TASTING NOTE: This Chardonnay originates from a single site in the southern reaches of Margaret River. It is poised, refined, and delightfully complex. The season’s warmth has contributed to an aromatic profile of honeysuckle, citrus blossom, pear essence and peach fuzz. Vanilla, lemon curd, minerals, and flint enhance the bouquet. On the palate, this wine offers a delicate blend of supple fruit flavours, including citrus, stone fruits, figs, and melon, complemented by fine oak and bready notes from the extended time on yeast lees. The finish is chalky and mineral, providing tautness, definition, length, and balance. This wine will age with grace over time.
- ABOUT THE WINE: Hand-harvested then whole fruit pressed to gently extract the finest and freshest juice for fermentation in French oak barriques, 50% new and 50% once used. The malolactic completes over 18 months of maturation in oak, and the occasional stirring of the yeast lees builds texture and refreshes the wine during this period. This extended barrel residence also facilitates the integration of wine and oak. After selecting the best few barrels that constitute the Queen, the wine is minimally fined, filtered, and gravity filled to bottle. A further rest in the bottle before release gives the wine time to soften and evolve its unique expression.
- ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Stuart Pym's winemaking career commenced more than 30 years ago when he moved to Margaret River to help his parents with their new wine label Sussex Vale. This vineyard has since become the well-respected Hayshed Hill. His winemaking experience includes some of Margaret River’s best loved names including Voyager Estate (1991-2000), Devil’s Lair (2000-2008) and Stella Bella (2008-2013). With his partner Janice, Stuart started Suckfizzle in 1996 and Stella Bella in 1999. In 2013 he handed over the Stella Bella winemaking reins and moved to Flowstone in a permanent capacity. Based in Forest Grove, just south of the Margaret River township, Flowstone is named for the famous limestone caves of the region in particular Lake Cave, with was originally known as Queen Of The Earth.
