  • TASTING NOTE: "Pressed to seasoned French oak, wild-yeast fermentation, 10 months' maturation in oak on lees. Interesting to note that winemaker Paul Dahlenburg feels his understanding of the Fiano grape is growing. It shows in 2022 with stunning flavour intensity and textural composition. In possession of both strength in poise, it launches into an arresting scent of pear, baked apple, peach, melon and almond meal. Runs long, smooth and concentrated against a mealy, lightly savoury background. That's a wow!" 96 Points - Jeni Port, Halliday Wine Companion
  • ABOUT THE WINE: "Fiano is a variety we believe has great potential in Australia and particularly in Victoria’s north-east, so much so that in 2022 we planted it at our home vineyard in Eldorado. While we patiently await the fruits of our labour, we have the privilege of been able to source fruit from several established vineyards. The first is the Bungamero Vineyard, situated in the Alpine Valleys at Whorouly South, expertly managed by brothers Tim and Mark Walpole. The second vineyard is the Yurilla Vineyard situated in the King Valley and owned and managed by Peter Burrowes. Both vineyards produce markedly different wines and account for roughly an equal share of the final blend. The Alpine Valley fruit is super textured with a waxy mouth feel and subtle aromatics whereas the King Valley fruit displays vibrant aromatics and more overt up front fruit on the palate. Together blended carefully in the right composition they complement each other beautifully displaying the best of both sites. The grapes are gently pressed to stainless steel for a natural cold settling, then racked after 48 hours to seasoned French oak. 50% is fermented by indigenous wild yeast and 50% inoculated with CY Yeast to promote the production of complex sulphide. The wine is then aged a further five months in oak on full lees with bimonthly stirring." Eldorado Road
  • ABOUT THE PRODUCER: "Eldorado is often used as a metaphor for the “Holy Grail” that one might spend one’s life seeking. It could represent true love, heaven, happiness or success. It is used sometimes as a figure of speech to represent something much sought after that may never exist or at least may not ever be found. Eldorado is located in the Beechworth foothills equidistant between Beechworth and Wangaratta. Our tiny home vineyards are located on Eldorado Road and only several kilometers from the quaint hamlet of Eldorado. The property was selected and purchased principally because it is located on a seam of free draining red decomposed granite loaded with granite buckshot, flanked by granite hills and fed by the gentle flowing Reedy Creek which weaves its way through our property on its journey to the Ovens River. Paul Dahlenburg (Bear) and Lauretta Schulz (Laurie) have spent a career making wine and tending to the vineyards of others, in 2010 and Eldorado Road was born and just like we had our own label."
