- ABOUT THE WINE: This is declassified from the estate Shiraz and represents amazing value. Lovely scents of black fruits, liquorice, white pepper and dusty earth. On the palate there is a depth of flavour and complexity with spicy savouriness, plum and cherry fruit flavours together with a purple inky minerality. The fine tannins are perfectly integrated with the cool climate acidity. Simply delicious. Absolute bargain value Shiraz (that wildly overdelivers for the price) from a modern Beechworth star! - ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Peter Graham has been making wine in Beechworth since 1999, when he began working in the vineyards and winery at Giaconda. During these early years, he studied oenology at Charles Sturt University while working as assistant winemaker at Giaconda until 2012, when he left to establish Domenica. The vineyard was first planted in 1996, an accord of family and friends. The original planting consisted of Chardonnay, Roussanne and Pinot Noir on the steeper south facing section of the property. Ensuing years saw a joint venture between Michel Chapoutier, Rick Kinzbrunner and Peter Graham expand plantings to feature Shiraz and Nebbiolo. Domenica was officially launched in 2012 after Peter became sole owner and manager of the vineyard. From years of intimate experience farming this site, Peter has expanded the early plantings of Chardonnay and Nebbiolo which so successfully express the shallow granitic soil. Gamay will join the lineup in 2022 and Chenin Blanc from 2024. Domenica sits 460m atop the granite ridge south west of Beechworth. The 4 hectare vineyard is planted to Chardonnay, Nebbiolo, Shiraz and Gamay which reflect their origin and offer cellar worthy wines with a gripping mineral texture. Winemaking on site is traditional and driven by taste more than numbers. Pressings, solids and lees all play their part completing the picture. The wines are matured in a range of carefully selected French oak barrels, puncheons and foudres.
