  • TASTING NOTE: "The 2022 Volnay Fremiet 1er Cru has more depth and fruit concentration compared to the Clos des Angles. The nose displays a mélange of red and black fruit, pressed flowers and a touch of loam aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, just a slight lactic note on the entry, segueing into a more marine-tinged latter half. A pinch of black pepper appears toward the finish. Give this two or three years in bottle. (Drink between 2026-2042)." 93 Points - Neal Martin, Vinous
  • ABOUT THE WINE: Domaine Marquis d'Angerville owns a large 1.57-hectare plot in this terroir, long recognized as one of Volnay's finest vineyards. Located below Clos des Ducs and Les Pitures, the soil of this climat, very shallow in the upper part due to erosion (barely 30 cm of topsoil), is composed of decomposed marl. This blend of clay and limestone gives the wine finesse and body. The slope is quite steep, starting just above Clos des Angles and rising to the Chemin des Pitures, halfway up the hillside. Although located north of the village near Pommard, Fremiet is very much in the Volnay style, fruity yet structured. Refined and smooth, elegance characterizes it. It also benefits from several years of aging, which further enhance its bouquet, typically dominated by red fruits. While the initial taste is fruity, the finish is often saline or salty.
  • ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Based in Volnay, Domaine Marquis d'Angerville is one of Burgundy's most historic estates and has been owned by the d'Angerville family for over 200 years. Guillaume d'Angerville, the sixth generation, now runs the estate, assisted by the talented François Duvivier, who joined him in 2005. Together, they converted the estate to biodynamic farming in 2009, creating graceful, balanced wines with what Guillaume describes as ‘spherical freshness’. The jewel in the crown is the fabulous Clos des Ducs vineyard. In 2024, Guillaume's daughter Margaux joined the estate alongside her father.
