- ABOUT THE WINE: The Pinot Noir fruit is manually hand-harvested from three separate vineyards; En Marlot, Au Rousseau and le Closeau with a South-South-West aspect on clay/limestone soils and vines ageing up from 15-80yrs. Fermentation is in concrete vats on skins for a 12 day maceration with gentle punch-downs and regular pump overs before being matured in barrels on light lees for 10 months. The resulting pinot noir is lifted with exuberant raspberry, red berries, violets and distinct mineral character on fine tannins and elegant acidity.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER: The Germain family have been viticulturalists based in Nantoux (just a stones thrown from Meursault, Pommard and Beane) for generations. Today the estate is run by Philippe Germain (vineyard management) and his nephew Maxime Champaud (winemaker). More recently in 2015 the family were offered a sharecropping contract which gave them access to 1er Cru sites in Beaune and Savigny, plus Volnay and Pommard, which meant their offering was greatly enhanced. The Germain’s are also related to the Damy family in Nantoux, and all of the white wines are fermented and aged in Damy barrels. The reds are mostly matured in Billon barrels (also through the Damy family) and usually around 20% new oak only. The estate is certified HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale/High Environmental Value) with the principles of agroecology, zero herbicide or insecticide, and low impact techniques with great importance placed on soil health and biodiversity.
