  • TASTING NOTE: Perfumed citrus blossom and persistent white florals, layered with ripe apple and pear. It evolves into a clean depth of dried figs with gentle touches of curry leaf and sea spray mist. The palate is poised and balanced, unfolding of citrus blossom & Mediterranean notes of figs and dates, with a fragrant journey of pear and apple lifted by a gentle green spice structure of turmeric and ginger finishing with a sweet touch of honeysuckle. The attractive, vibrant mineral acidity keeps the flavours lingering on the back palate, with tightly bound stone fruit, length, and a firm, clean finish. Cullen
  • ABOUT THE WINE: Renamed in 2006 to honour Dr. Kevin John Cullen, co-founder of Cullen Wines, this Chardonnay is made from Wente clone vines planted on their own roots in 1976. Hand harvested around the biodynamic calendar over 5 different harvest times from the 14th to the 27th February including the first pick on a Full Moon MOSH Fruit Day and crafted from biodynamically certified Chardonnay grapes. The grapes were whole bunch basket pressed to puncheons of which 50% were new. The natural fermentation, both primary and malolactic, took place with indigenous microflora. This wine spent 7 months in barrel and has had no fining, filtration or cold stabilization. Cullen
  • ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Cullen is a legendary, Margaret River producer. Diana and Kevin Cullen were THE Margaret River pioneers back in the late 60’s planting a trial acre of vines at Wilyabrup in 1966. The encouraging results of this led to the planting of 18 acres of vines in 1971, including their first Cabernet vines. Daughter Vanya Cullen, took over the winemaking in 1989.  Cullen’s vineyards are biodynamically grown with Cullen becoming the first vineyard and winery in Australia to be certified carbon neutral, requiring the calculation of all of the carbon used and carbon dioxide emitted in the winery; the carbon is then offset by the planting of new trees. There is a restaurant onsite which overlooks the historic vineyard and in keeping with the biodynamic philosophies of the winery, 90% of the produce used in the kitchen is grown onsite in 5 separate biodynamic gardens. The wines have received many significant accolades and awards over the years with the Diana Madeline considered by many to be Australia’s greatest Bordeaux blend.
