  • TASTING NOTE: "The best wines are distinctive with a clear DNA link to place. Diana Madeline is one such wine. An excellent deep purple hue with an ever-changing array of aromas: one minute spice, mulberries and cocoa when first poured, and next full of savoury notes of black olive tapenade, nori and menthol. As usual, it’s beautifully framed yet the fuller-bodied palate is plumped up by textural, expansive tannins and finishes long. Get a spot ready in the cellar, this has time on its side." 97 Points - Jane Faulkner, Halliday
  • ABOUT THE WINE: The vintage was perfect for elegant cabernet sauvignon, with warm conditions early and then cooler conditions making it an epic vintage with reds ripening earlier than usual. Hand harvested over 5 biodynamic calendar days from 12th March to 16th March, three flower days and culminating on a full Moon fruit day when Venus and Saturn were in conjunction. An average of 30 days on skins. The wine spent 14 months in 55% new oak. In a mixture of biodynamic barriques and puncheons. The final blend comprises 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 3% Malbec.
  • ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Cullen is a legendary, Margaret River producer. Diana and Kevin Cullen were THE Margaret River pioneers back in the late 60’s planting a trial acre of vines at Wilyabrup in 1966. The encouraging results of this led to the planting of 18 acres of vines in 1971, including their first Cabernet vines. Daughter Vanya Cullen, took over the winemaking in 1989.  Cullen’s vineyards are biodynamically grown with Cullen becoming the first vineyard and winery in Australia to be certified carbon neutral, requiring the calculation of all of the carbon used and carbon dioxide emitted in the winery; the carbon is then offset by the planting of new trees. There is a restaurant onsite which overlooks the historic vineyard and in keeping with the biodynamic philosophies of the winery, 90% of the produce used in the kitchen is grown onsite in 5 separate biodynamic gardens. The wines have received many significant accolades and awards over the years with the Diana Madeline considered by many to be Australia’s greatest Bordeaux blend.
