- TASTING NOTE: "Pale yellow colour with green hues, beautiful radiance and great lustre. On the first nose, G 2023 opens with notes of pink grapefruit, orange and white flowers. After swirling, the aromatique profile of the Sauvignon Blanc develops and gains in depth with notes of: lemon, passion fruit and juniper. On the palate, the attack is soft and delicate, with a dense, smooth mid-palate. The long, mouth-watering finish is perfectly underlined by sustained acidity without being too pronounced. A well-balanced wine, marked by a Sauvignon Blanc aroma of great purity, which gives way on the palate to all the density we recognise from the Sémillon." Chateau Guiraud
- ABOUT THE WINE: A certified organic Bordeaux blend of 40% Sauvignon Blanc and 60% Semillon fermented in old Sauternes oak barrels and aged for 6 months on lees to give the wine more volume and textural appeal. The fruit is primarily sourced from a vineyard that was planted to Sauvignon Blanc by accident around 40 years ago. (For their Sauternes, Guiraud were after a Semillon-heavy cuvee - too much Sauvignon Blanc was not considered the right balance for a sweet wine). Instead of selling off the Sauvignon or re-planting, Guiraud decided to create a special dry white and the “G” was born.
- ABOUT THE PRODUCER: In the heart of the Sauternes wine region, Château Guiraud’s style stands out. The mysterious terroir of sand, gravel and clay plays a key role in the unique nature of its wines, as do the high proportion of sauvignon blanc grapes (35%), the vineyard’s sustainable wine-growing methods and the expert work involved in harvesting and blending the vineyard’s grapes. As a pioneering proponent of biodiversity since 1996 and the first Premier Grand Cru Classé to receive organic certification (2011), Château Guiraud has always been proud to declare its unfaltering commitment to the natural world. As well as stunning dessert wines, they also produce outstanding dry white wines based from Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.
