- TASTING NOTE: Aromas of fresh fruit, such as lemon orange and pear, are first predominant. They are followed by light spicy notes (smoky, gingerbread). On the palate, the attack is ample with a lot of fullness and power that then evolve towards a remarkable freshness and minerality that support the finish, a finish characterized by an important vivacity. La Chartreuse 2015 can be summed in one word - delicious.
- ABOUT THE WINE: The year 2015 was one of the driest and sunniest in 50 years. 10 passes through the vineyard were required to pick the botrytis effected berries. Composed of Semillon 75%, Sauvignon Blanc 23%, Muscadelle 2%. Barrel fermented in 50% new French oak.
- ABOUT THE PRODUCER: In 1787, former US President Thomas Jefferson, then ambassador to France, celebrated Chateau Coutet as the best Sauternes from Barsac. In 1855, the estate was classified as a First Growth and recognized for its continued excellence. Today, as the oldest and largest Barsac estate, Chateau Coutet stays true to its tradition of distinction and quality. Located between the Garonne and Ciron rivers, Château Coutet benefits from a microclimate whose autumn mists necessary for the spread of the Botrytis cinerea. The vineyard area extends 38 hectares with grape varieties of 75% Sémillon, 23% Sauvignon blanc and 2% Muscadelle.
