- TASTING NOTE: "A tight and lean pinot noir, yet manages to deliver good DNA of the variety. A touch of sweetness to fruit, sweet spice, too, some woody inflection, a lick of green herbs and truffle. Tannins are chalky and tense, keeping the wine in check. It feels quite easy to drink, but also like some of the components of the wine don't quite gel right now, that tannin sits outside fruit, and acidity is a bit peaky. Give it some time, as pleasure is here, and will come in spades with short maturity." 92 Points - Mike Bennie, Halliday Wine Companion
- ABOUT THE WINE: All estate fruit. Vine age 10-38 years. Hand and machine harvested. Blend of different treatments including: 7 day cold soak; whole bunch ferment; barrel fermentation. Filled to a mix of new and seasoned French barriques and puncheons, matured for 10 months on medium lees. 26% new oak, 13% whole bunch. The wine that first highlighted the suitability of our site to produce premium cool climate Pinot Noir. Clonal and site selection matched with small batch winemaking produces the characteristic house-style of Pinot Noir that Castle Rock Estate is known for. Castle Rock Estate

ABOUT THE PRODUCER: The vineyard is located on Porongurup Road in the shire of Plantagenet. It is set high in the Porongurup Ranges, which are 40 km north of Western Australia’s south coast regional centre Albany. Towards the end of 1981 the 55 hectare property was specifically selected by Angelo and Wendy Diletti to grow premium quality table-wine grapes. The choice was based on the elevation, an approximate eastern slope, well-drained soils and excellent water catchment potential. Rob Diletti is the winemaking son of Castle Rock Estate founders Angelo and Wendy Diletti. During his formative years Rob worked in the family’s vineyard, developing a keen interest in grape-growing. In 2001 he co-designed the Castle Rock Estate winery, a 200-tonne winery set within the family’s vineyards. Soon after taking over the winemaking, Rob was recognised for the quality of the wines he made.
