- TASTING NOTE: "A cool, lithe and fresh-feeling pinot noir set to characters of tart cherry, white strawberry and white pepper, with pumice stone tannins and a fine, almost briny acid line. It all fits together well – delicate, pure and sleek, sitting under the cusp of medium weight but with a cascade of 'purity' and distinct pinot noir characteristics on song. Quite an individual wine, and great for it. This should be on your radar." 95 Points - Mike Bennie, Halliday Wine Companion
- ABOUT THE WINE: Named in honour of Angelo and Wendy, founders of Castle Rock Estate, who planted the first Pinot Noir vines in 1986. Showcasing these old vines not only highlights the premium quality of Pinot Noir grown in the Porongurup but also, the greatness of our site. All estate fruit. Sourced primarily from oldest plantings (1986). Matured in French oak on medium lees for 10 months. Barrel selected from several small batch treatments for final blend. 17% New oak, 25% whole bunch. ABOUT THE PRODUCER: The vineyard is located on Porongurup Road in the shire of Plantagenet. It is set high in the Porongurup Ranges, which are 40 km north of Western Australia’s south coast regional centre Albany. Towards the end of 1981 the 55 hectare property was specifically selected by Angelo and Wendy Diletti to grow premium quality table-wine grapes. The choice was based on the elevation, an approximate eastern slope, well-drained soils and excellent water catchment potential. Rob Diletti is the winemaking son of Castle Rock Estate founders Angelo and Wendy Diletti. During his formative years Rob worked in the family’s vineyard, developing a keen interest in grape-growing. In 2001 he co-designed the Castle Rock Estate winery, a 200-tonne winery set within the family’s vineyards. Soon after taking over the winemaking, Rob was recognised for the quality of the wines he made.
