  • TASTING NOTE: "This release is on song. Black pepper and peppercorn characters float through cherry and plum fruit flavour. It's lively, it has enough depth, it finishes well and it charms throughout. The fine-grained, savoury aspect of the tannin here is of particular note. If you like the Great Western style, you can buy this with confidence." 94 Points - Campbell Mattinson, Halliday
  • ABOUT THE WINE: Made from Best’s own vineyards as well as trusted local growers, this wine is meticulously crafted with the same attention to detail as the flagship wines. Bin No. 1 Shiraz represents the essence of Best’s Great Western’s winemaking ideals and the distinction of the Great Western region.
  • ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Tucked away in the heart of Victoria’s Great Western wine region, Best’s Wines it is a living piece of Australian winemaking history. Established in 1866 by Henry Best and lovingly cared for by the Thomson family since 1920, Best’s is one of the country's oldest continuously family-owned wineries. Now five generations in, the Thomsons have quietly maintained what many consider one of Australia’s “best kept” winery secrets. Best’s historic Concongella Vineyard is home to the 1868 plantings of Shiraz and Pinot Meunier, as well as Henry Best’s original Nursery Block (containing nearly 40 different grape varieties). This picturesque vineyard holds some of the oldest and rarest vines in the world. The pedigree of our Great Western vineyards allows us to craft wines that are elegant and finely structured with great intensity. Shiraz, Riesling, Pinot Meunier, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Pinot Noir are our calling cards. These varietals speak clearly and beautifully of cool climate, complex soils, and long growing seasons. At Best’s, the philosophy is simple, let the fruit speak for itself. Our winemaking avoids heavy-handed intervention and excessive oak, instead allowing the vineyard and vintage to tell the story. This minimalist approach ensures wines are pure, balanced, and often reveal their best attributes over time. Like the region itself, their strength lies in quiet confidence and enduring charm.
