In medieval times, Selvapiana was one of the watch towers along the Sieve river, built to protect the city of Florence to the north-east border. During the Renaissance, it became a summer residence for noble families and Florentine bishops. Francesco Giuntini, who was among the first Tuscan producers to make a Riserva wine from 100% Sangiovese, was born on the estate and with consultant Franco Bernabei grew the estate to prominence. Since 1997 Selvapiana is run by Francesco Giuntini’s adopted sons, Federico and Silvia, sons of his estate manager Franco Masseti, who worked with Francesco from 1953 to 1990. Federico's son Niccolò has been incharge of the winemaking snce 2018. The property extends over a surface of 250 hectares of which 58 are planted with vines, 36 olive gardens and 140 wood, in the municipalities of Rufina, Pontassieve and Pelago. The estate covers 245 ha (605 acres), of which 54 are under vine and the rest olive groves and woods. The vineyards primarily face west, though Selvapiana’s prized Bucerchiale vineyard is south-west facing. The vineyards are situated at an elevation of 150-200 m (492-656 ft), with a clay and limestone soil.

COUNTRY: Italy

REGION: Tuscany

SUB-REGION: Chianti Rufina

VARIETAL: 95% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo, Colorino, Malvasia Nera

WINE STYLE: Red Wine

WINEMAKER: Niccolò Giuntini

CLASSIFICATION: Sustainable Farming

CLOSURE: Cork

ABV%: 13%

SIZE: 750ml

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0367/1208/7597/files/Selvapiana-Chianti-Rufina-2023-Heritage-Wine-Store-Perth-CBD-Bottleshop.jpg?v=1772010465
