He was among the first generation of the early German Silesian community of the Barossa in South Australia and established the family winery in 1868. Johann Christian arrived in 1841 as a skilled stonemason and wheelwright and planted his first vineyards in the high country of the picturesque Eden Valley. This wine is produced from old vine shiraz planted in 1968, a century later, by fourth-generation Cyril Henschke near the village of Eden Valley at 470m altitude. As per the Barossa Old Vine Charter, an ‘old vine’ is equal to or greater than 35 years of age. Matured in 10% new and 90% seasoned (95% French, 5% American) oak hogsheads for 18 months prior to blending and bottling. Bottle aged in the Henschke cellar for museum release. Henschke

ABOUT THE PRODUCER: Henschke is one of Australia's great wine producers, situated in Keyneton in the Eden Valley of South Australia. The Henschke's trace their roots in Australia to the mid 19th century with the first recorded sale of Henschke wine in 1868. It's flagship wine, the 'Hill Of Grace' Shiraz is sourced from a single vineyard from vines over 160 years old. The current generations of the Henschke family (5th and 6th) that tend the 109 hectares under vine in the Eden Valley, Barossa Valley and Adelaide Hills, use organic and biodynamic principals in their vineyards and are world leaders in sustainable wine production.

COUNTRY: Australia

REGION: Eden Valley, South Australia

VARIETAL: Shiraz

WINE STYLE: Red Wine

WINEMAKER: Stephen Henshcke

CLASSIFICATION: Sustainable Farming

CLOSURE: Vinolok

ABV%: 14.5%

SIZE: 750ml
